Bruce was born and raised in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Upon high school graduation, he attended UW-Eau Claire. While taking an Art appreciation class, the professor encouraged him to pursue more art classes. He did just that and graduated in 1969 with a B.A. degree in Art Education.
Shortly after getting a teaching job in Rice Lake Wisconsin he started graduate work during the summers at UW- Superior. He received an M.A. degree in 1975 with an emphasis in Ceramics and Sculpture. After 33 years of working with children from first grade through seniors in high school, he retired in 2002.
The summer after retiring, he started building his art studio across the street from his home; it was completed in the spring of 2003. Since then, he has been busy making pots.
Bruce's work had many influences. Among them: meeting and exchanging ideas with local artists in the American Southwest, Japan and Europe. However, some of the strongest influences have come from 33 years of wonderful inquiring student questions and fantastic solutions which proved educational to all involved.
He has also continued with the teaching of adults and home school students to keep fresh and connected with other peoples desire to create.
